II. Steps to Ensure Water Security in Emergency Situations

1. The Importance of Water Planning and Preparation:
Develop a water plan tailored to your household’s needs. Assess how much water you require for drinking, cooking, hygiene, and pets. Consider the duration of the emergency and set realistic goals for storing an adequate water supply.
2. Storing an Adequate Supply of Water:
Use your chosen water storage container to store a sufficient amount of water to meet your needs. Follow guidelines provided by emergency management agencies, aiming for at least three days’ worth of water per person.
3. Proper Maintenance and Rotation of Stored Water:
Regularly check your water storage containers for any signs of damage or contamination. Rotate the stored water every six months to ensure its freshness and quality. Use the previously stored water for other purposes, such as watering plants, and replenish your emergency supply with fresh water.
